'The Constant Wife', starring Kate Burton, to open at the American Airlines Theatre
Roundabout Theatre Company will present Kate Burton in a new Broadway production of W. Somerset Maugham's comedy The Constant Wife, directed by Mark Brokaw at the American Airlines Theatre. The Constant Wife will open on the 16 Jun 2005, following previews from the 27 May April. This is a limited engagement through to the 7 Aug 2005.
Kate Burton (Constance Middleton) most recently received two Tony nominations for 'Hedda Gabler' and 'The Elephant Man'. Appeared in 'Three Sisters' directed by Michael Blakemore in the West End in 2003. Most recently she has been seen in 'Unfaithful' and 'Stay' with Ewan McGregor.

Synopsis: A social comedy of marital maneuvers in 1920s upper-class London. Constance Middleton discovers that her husband is having an affair with her best friend. Rather than humiliating herself and others, she denies the affair, defends the two, and sets about turning bad luck, unfaithful friends, local gossip and a broken heart to her own advantage
This production replaces Peter Nichol's 'Passion Play' which has been cancelled.
The Broadway premiere of The Constant Wife began performances at Maxine Elliott�s Theatre on the 29 Nov 1926. The last Broadway production on Broadway began performances at the Shubert Theatre on the 14 Apr 1975.
Playwright W. Sumerset Maugham's other plays include 'Lady Frederick', 'Landed Gentry', 'The Land of Promise', 'The Sacred Flame' , 'Our Betters ', 'East of Suez', 'The Unattainable', 'The Bread-Winner', 'For Services Rendered'.
Mark Brokaw (Director) recently directed 'Reckless' (MTC), which starred Mary-Louise Parker, at the Biltmore in 2004.
