The Commons of Pensacola extends a second time

Manhattan Theatre Club have announced a final two week extension of their world premiere production of Amanda Peet's The Commons of Pensacola. The show will now run through to 09 Feb 2014.

The Commons of Pensacola, currently in rehearsals, opened at NY City Center Stage I on 21 Nov 2013, following previews from 22 Oct 2013. The production was originally scheduled to close on 05 Jan 2014.

The show opened to mixed reviews: This one was sliding all over the game board (newyorktheatreguide.com); Engossing and watchable (NY Times); It's hard to identify with (Record); Fizzles in its final showdown (TONY); Small-scale drama veined with caustic comedy (Hollywood Reporter).

Directed by MTC's artistic director Lynne Meadow, the production stars Emmy and Tony award winner Blythe Danner ("Huff", 'Butterflies Are Free'), Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Sarah Jessica Parker ("Sex and The City") will be Zoe Levin ("The Way Way Back"), Ali Marsh ( "In Plain Sight"), Michael Stahl-David ("Cloverfield") and Nilaja Sun ('No Child...').

This new play marks the reunion of Danner and Parker who previously starred together in MTC's 1995 Off-Broadway production of A.R. Gurney's 'Sylvia.'

The Commons of Pensacola: Judith (Blythe Danner) has been divested of her assets and forced to leave her luxurious New York life after her husband's Wall Street scam became headline news. When her daughter Becca (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Becca's filmmaker boyfriend (Michael Stahl-David) pay Judith a visit to the one bedroom condo Judith now occupies in Pensacola, Florida, everyone's motives are called into question. How will past and present circumstances inform how this family moves into the future?

The creative team for The Commons of Pensacola includes Santo Loquasto (scenic design), Tom Broecker (costume design), Jason Lyons (lighting design), Jill BC Du Boff (sound design) and Thomas Schall (fight director).

The Commons of Pensacola marks Peet's professional playwrighting debut. As an actress she is known for her film roles including "Something's Gotta Give" and "Igby Goes Down." Her stage credits include Neil Simon's 'Barefoot in the Park,' and roles in the Neil LaBute plays 'Break of Noon' and 'This Is How It Goes.' She'll next be seen in HBO's new series "Togetherness."

Ticket information and dates for The Commons of Pensacola will be announced shortly.
