The Bridges of Madison County delays 1st preview
The Broadway premiere of The Bridges of Madison County, a new musical based on the best selling novel by Robert James Waller, has delayed its first preview by four days. The show, which was scheduled to begin previews from 13 Jan 2014, will now play its first performance on 17 Jan 2014. The musical will still open on at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on 27 Feb 2014 as originally announced.
The change in preview dates has been made to accommodate a later rehearsal date of 09 Dec 2013.
As previously announced, The Bridges of Madison County will star four-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O'Hara ('Nice Work If You Can Get It,' 'The Pajama Game'), and stage & screen star Steven Pasquale ("Rescue Me"). Tony Award-winner Bartlett Sher ('The Light in the Piazza,' 'Awake and Sing,'' Golden Boy') will direct.
For O'Hara, this will mark a reunion with director Bartlett Sher, who directed her Tony-nominated performances as 'Nellie Forbush' in 'South Pacific' and 'Clara' in 'The Light in the Piazza.' Pasquale has previously starred on Broadway in 'reasons to be pretty' and 'A Man of No Importance.'
The Bridges of Madison County features music and lyrics by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown ('Parade,' 'The Last Five Years') and a book by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman ('night Mother,' 'The Color Purple,' 'The Secret Garden').
The Bridges of Madison County's story is about a devoted Iowa housewife and her unlikely love affair with a National Geographic photographer.
The creative team includes set design by Michael Yeargan, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Donald Holder and sound by Jon Weston.
The Bridges of Madison County comes to Broadway following its world premiere at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts, where it played from 01 - 18 Aug 2013.
