The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas - Broadway 2015

It has been announced that the 1978 musical comedy The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas will open on Broadway in 2015 at a yet to be announced venue, directed and choreographed by Rob Ashford.

The musical features a book by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, with music and lyrics by Carol Hall. The show originated off-Broadway at the Entermedia Theatre on 17 April 1978, before moving to Broadway on 19 June 1978, at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rodgers Theatre) where it played 1584 performances.

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas dramatizes the real-life story of legendary house of ill-repute, 'The Chicken Ranch' in Texas that remained open for many years until the Governor orders the local sheriff to shut it down. Under the watchful eye of Miss Mona, the house enjoys visits by governors, senators and football teams, until the crusading television reporter Melvin P. Thorpe highlights the activities. The score includes such numbers as "Good Old Girl," "Hard Candy Christmas" and "Texas Has a Whorehouse in It."

Rob Ashford's previous Broadway credits include 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (Tony Award for Best Choreographer), 'The Wedding Singer', 'Curtains', 'Promises, Promises' and 'Cry Baby'. This new production will be produced by Jerry Frankel and Jeffrey Richards.

Further information including theatre, dates, cast and creative team will be announced at a later date.
