The Belle of Amherst to close on 23 Nov 2014

The New York return of a new production of The Belle of Amherst, a one-woman show starring actress Joely Richardson, has posted closing notices and will perform its final performance on 23 November 2014. When the show closes it will have played 14 previews and 41 regular performances.

The play, which opened at the Westside Theatre on 19 October 2014, following previews from 07 Octber 2014, had been selling tickets through to 25 Jan 2014.

The Belle of Amherst, based on the poems of Emily Dickinson, is written by William Luce and directed by Steve Cosson.

Synopsis: 'Emily Dickinson welcomes audiences into her lifelong Amherst homestead in mid-19th century Massachusetts. While Dickinson found solace in solitude through much of her life, playwright William Luce weaves her poems, diaries, and letters into a one-woman portrait of one of America's greatest and most prolific poets, mixing Dickinson's encounters with close friends and family with the poet's own, often amusing observations.'

The creative team features sets by Antje Ellermann, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting by David Weiner and sound by Daniel Kluger.

Joely Richardson achieved worldwide fame following her role as "Julia McNamara" in the TV Drama "Nip/Tuck" for which she received two Golden Globe nominations. Her stage credits include 'Side Effects', 'The Lady From the Sea' and 'Ivanov', opposite Ethan Hawke. Joely Richardson has also appeared in numerous fims, including David Hare's "Wetherby", "Drowning By Numbers", "Sister My Sister", Disney's live action "101 Dalmatians", "Maybe Baby", opposite Hugh Laurie, "The Patriot", opposite Mel Gibson, "The Last Mimzy", "Anonymous", "Red Lights", opposite Robert De Niro and "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". More recently Joely has been seen in the film "Endless Love".
