Surface to Air at Symphony Space

Symphony Space will present the world premiere of Surface to Air, a new play by David Epstein, directed by Tony Award-winner James Naughton. The play will run from 11 Jul 5 Aug 2007 at Symphony Spaces Peter Jay Sharp Theatre. A 18 Jul 2007 opening is planned.

Surface to Air is the second in Symphony Spaces annual Summer Stock on Broadway series.

Surface to Air is the story of a family forced to confront long-repressed emotions when the remains of their son, a Vietnam veteran, are identified 30 years after his plane was shot down in Vietnam. The unresolved passions and long-lasting effects of the Vietnam War seem especially timely in light of the issues of today.

David Epsteins plays have been produced Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, in Europe and at regional theatres across the US. His play 'Exact Change' ran in London at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. He wrote the books and collaborated on the lyrics for the Off-Broadway musicals Wanted and The Bonus Army with the late Rev. Al Carmines. His screenplay for Palookaville was an award winner at the Venice Film Festival.

James Naughton has won Tony Awards for his starring roles on Broadway in City of Angels and Chicago and a MAC Award for his one-man show James Naughton: Street of Dreams. He directed the Broadway revivals of Our Town and Arthur Miller's The Price. On television, he appeared in Brooklyn Bridge, The Cosby Mysteries and Ally McBeal. His films include The Devil Wears Prada, The Good Mother, The Glass Menagerie and The Paper Chase.

Cast and creative team to be announced.
