Substitution at the SoHo Playhouse


The Playwrights Realm will present the World Premiere of Anton Dudley's Substitution at SoHo Playhouse. The play was written specifically for Tony Award nominee Jan Maxwell, who stars in the production, directed by Katherine Kovner.

Jan Maxwell has been nominated for Tony Awards for her roles as 'Mrs. Lynch' in 'Coram Boy' (2007) and 'Baroness Bomburst' in 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (2005). Other Broadway credits include 'Sixteen Wounded' (2004), 'Match' (2004), 'The Dinner Party' (2000) and 'The Sound of Music' (1998).

The play opens at SoHo Playhouse on 4 May 2008, following previews from 26 Apr and running through to 17 May 2008.

Substitution: Calvin's Mom is coping with the death of her teenage son as best as she can. When a substitute teacher challenges everything she thinks she knows about Calvin, their volatile bond creates a complex unfolding of revelations. Ultimately, she discovers that the choices we make about how we live and how we love can bring about endless surprises.

The production also stars Kieran Campion, Brandon Espinoza and Shana Dowdeswell.

The creative team comprises Tom Gleeson (sets), Theresa Squire (costumes), Jeff Croiter (lighting) and Jill BC DuBoff (sound).
