Spring Awakening will begin performances at the Eugene O'Neill from 17 Nov

The pop-rock musical Spring Awakening, music by Duncan Sheik, book and lyrics by Steven Sater, will begin performances on Broadway at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre from 17 Nov 2006. No opening date has been set for the musical.

Jeffrey Richards and Tom Frankel join Ira Pittelman and Tom Hulce as the commercial producers of Spring Awakening, which opened to good notices off-Broadway at the Atlantic Theatre on 15 Jun2006, and closed on 6 Aug 2006.

Spring Awakening will once again be directed by Michael Mayer, but no other details about the creative team or cast have been announced. It is rumoured that Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff will return as sexually confused teenagers Wendla and Melchior.

The musical is adapted from Frank Wedekind's controversial masterpiece about a dozen young people and how they make their way through the thrilling, complicated, confusing and mysterious time of their sexual awakening.
