Spider-Man: Choreographer Chase Brock joins team.
Lead producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris have announced a further change to the creative team for the Broadway premiere of Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark, which has been in previews at the Foxwoods Theatre since 28 Nov 2011.
Choreographer Chase Brock has now joined the company. Cohl and Harris said, "We were looking for someone with theater and opera experience, but who specializes in cutting-edge contemporary dance. We found everything we were looking for, and much more, with Chase."
When asked to confirm if the show's original choreographer, Daniel Ezralow, is still connected with the production, the producers responded that they had nothing further to aadd to their announcment.
Chase Brock recently directed City Encores production of 'Lost in the Stars.' On Broadway he has been assistent choreographer for 'The Look of Love' and 'Wonderful Town' (2003). He choreographed to critical acclaim Romeo et Juliette at the 2008 Salzberg Festival. For TV his work includes "Broadway Under the Stars" and "Eternal Flame" and on film, "Clear Blue Tuesday" and "Love, Mom." He provided choreography for the Nintendo Wii game "Dance on Broadway."
As previously announced, Philip William McKinley (who directed Hugh Jackman in his Tony Award-winning performance in 'The Boy From Oz') and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa have joined the creative team to help implement new staging and book rewrites, respectively.
The expanded creative team also includes musical consultant Paul Bogaev ('Tarzan,' 'Bombay Dreams,' 'Aida,' 'Sunset Boulevard') and sound designer Peter Hylenski ('Elf,' 'The Scottsboro Boys,' 'Rock of Ages,' 'Shrek'), both of whom have already been working on improving the musical arrangements and sound quality (respectively) over the past few weeks, thereby vastly enhancing the audience experience.
Due to the new schedule, director and co-book writer Julie Taymor will no longer continue in her day-to-day duties with the production.
The Broadway premiere of Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark is now scheduled to open at the Foxwoods Theatre on 14 Jun 2011, where it has been in previews from 28 Nov 2010. There will be no performances from 19 Apr - 11 May 2011. This is to allow for further rehearsal for the changes that are being introduced to the show.
Drawing from more than 40 years of Marvel comic books for inspiration, Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down—literally — when he's bitten by a genetically altered spider and wakes up the next morning clinging to his bedroom ceiling. This bullied science-geek—suddenly endowed with astonishing powers — soon learns, however, that with great power comes great responsibility as villains test not only his physical strength but also his strength of character.
Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark features music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy Award-winners Bono and The Edge of U2, and a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger ('Underneath The Lintel').
The complete cast of Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark stars Reeve Carney as 'Peter Parker/Spider-Man,' Tony Award-nominee Jennifer Damiano as 'Mary Jane Watson' and Patrick Page as 'Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin.'
