'Soon of a Mornin'', at Theatre Row 's Lion Theatre
Soon of a mornin', a new musical with book, music and lyrics by Andrea Frierson-Toney, at Theatre Row 's Lion Theatre from the 13 - 24 Sep 2005. Part of the Second New York Musical Theatre Festival.
Inspired by the Gee's Bend quilters and Library of Congress 1941 Field recordings of their Alabama community, the musical follows an African-American family of tenant farmers beginning in 1934 as they struggle to re-build their lives.
Originally commissioned by Musical Theatre Works in 2004, the musical won the 2004 Library of Congress Parsons Fund Award in Ethnographic Research.
Directed and choreographed by Gerry McIntyre, Soon of a mornin' features Milton Graig Nealy (Gerry McIntyre), Carole Denise Jones (Sarah Mae Pettway), Megan Magill (Annie Chambers), Fred Rose (Freidberg), Jason Veasey (Frank Pettway, Jr.), Richard E. Waits (Reverend Paul Mooney) and Bianca Jazzmine Ottley (Patsy Pettway).
Soon of a mornin' as set and stage design by Michael Bottari & Ronald Case and is produced by Robert A. Carreon.
