Sherlock Holmes to open on Broadway in 2017
Producers Antonio R. Marion and Kimberly Much have announced that they will bring a new adaptation of Sherlock Holmes to Broadway in 2017, adapted by Rachel Wagstaff and Duncan Abel.
No information on further creative team, dates or theatre have been announced, but the producers say this information will be announced at a later date.
"Staged as a mystery within a mystery, the case presented to Holmes forces him to confront his murky past. But is the unravelling of his childhood just a dangerous diversion?"
The play is described as a new theatrical exploration of the mind of the famous detective, while remaining faithful to the mysterious world created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Rachel Wagstaff's adaptation of Sebastian Faulks' bestselling novel 'Birdsong' was staged at the Comedy Theatre in London's West End in 2010 directed by Sir Trevor Nunn. She is currently adapting Paul Gallico's 'Flowers for Mrs Harris' for Old Vic Productions/Vicky Graham Productions and is also co-writing two screenplays with Sebastian Faulks, one as a feature film, one for television.
Duncan Abel is a lecturer in creative writing at the University of Hertfordshire. His radio drama, 'When I Lost You', co-written with Rachel Wagstaff, was transmitted as an afternoon play on BBC Radio Four in 2013.
