Seminar to play final performance on 6 May 2012

The World Premiere of Theresa Rebeck's comedy Seminar will play its final performance on 6 May 2012. The comedy opened at the John Golden Theatre on 20 Nov 2011, following previews from 27 Oct 2011, where the show was selling tickets through to 1 Jul 2012.

The news follows the announcement of the 2012 Tony nominations in which Seminar received no nominations. The show has also recently been struggling at the box office, and the show's house capacity for last week was only 57%.

Lead producer Jeffrey Finn said, "On behalf of all our producers, it's been an honor and a pleasure to produce Theresa Rebeck's Seminar. We're proud that this production was a World Premiere; the Broadway debut of director Sam Gold; the return to Broadway of Alan Rickman leading a celebrated original cast; and now the return to Broadway of Jeff Goldblum. We're especially glad that Seminar will continue with future U.S. and international engagements, to be announced in the coming weeks."

The current cast of Seminar stars Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Jeff Goldblum and co-stars film and television star Justin Long in his Broadway debut, Zoe Lister-Jones and original cast members Jerry O'Connell in his Broadway debut and Hettienne Park.

The original cast starred Alan Rickman, Lily Rabe, Hamish Linklater, Jerry O'Connell and Hettienne Park.

In Seminar, four young writers are thrilled to be participating in a private seminar taught by the brilliant but unpredictable Leonard (Jeff Goldblum), an international literary legend. But as Leonard deems some students more promising than others, tensions arise. Sex is used as a weapon, alliances are made and broken, and it's not just the wordplay that turns vicious...

The comedy opened to mostly good reviews: Not great theatre, but good theatre (newyorktheatreguide); Tangy but sometimes contrived comedy (NY Daily News); Enormously entertaining (Variety).

The design team features David Zinn (Set and costume), Ben Stanton (lighting) and John Gromada (sound).

Seminar is produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Finn, Jill Furman, John N. Hart Jr., Patrick Milling Smith, Roy Furman, David Ian, David Mirvish, Amy Nauiokas and James Spry.
