Tue 8 Mar 2005 'Romance' extends a further two weeks to the 1 May The world premiere production of David Mamet's new comedy Romance extends for a second two weeks, and is now booking to the 1 May 2005. The play was originally scheduled through to the 3 April, but such was the interest from the public that the show announced it's first extension to the 17 Apr even before the shows first preview on the 9 Feb. Romance, opened to good to luke warm notices. Polly Wittenberg, who reviews for newyorktheatreguide.com, said of the play, "In concocting what purports to be a hyper-kinetic farce, presented here under the precise direction of Neil Pepe, Mamet is poaching on territory perfected by the likes of Joe Orton in What the Butler Saw and Michael Frayn in Noises Off. Following seventeen Mamet revivals, Romance marks the first world premiere by the prolific playwright at the company he founded with William H. Macy twenty years ago. Romance will be directed by Artistic Director Neil Pepe. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet returns to Atlantic with his new farce set in a modern day courtroom that explores issues ranging from our current judicial system to the Middle East conflict, fidelity and World peace. The ensemble features: Larry Bryggman (Judge), Steven Goldstein (Defendant), Steven Hawley (Bailiff), Bob Balaban (Prosecutor), Jim Frangione (Doctor), Keith Nobbs (Bernard), and Christopher Evan Welch (Defense Attorney). Romance has set design by Robert Brill, costumes by Sarah Edwards, lighting by James S. Ingalls and sound by Obadiah Eaves.
