'Rebel Without A Cause' at Theatre Row's Lion Theatre

Barely Balancing Artists Group presents Rebel Without A Cause, by James Fuller, at Theatre Row's Lion Theatre from the 6 - 30 Oct 2005

Set in the 1950s, Rebel Without A Cause is the story of Jim Stark, a lonely, conflicted teenager from a good family who finds himself in yet another new town, trying to make sense of his surroundings and finding nothing but trouble and a mixed bag of friends. In a whirlwind period of twenty-four hours, Jim discovers true love and great tragedy. Jim Stark is often referred to as the first accurately represented teenager in film, and he remains the ultimate representation of a misunderstood youth growing up in a modern world.

The stage version of Rebel Without A Cause was written by James Fuller from the screenplay by Stewart Stern, which was originally adapted by Irving Shulman from a story by Nicholas Ray. The play is co-directed by Brian Stites and Joshua Coleman.

Leading the cast are Allie Mulholland, Joshua Coleman and Erin Cunningham. In supporting roles are Adeline Drescher, Selena C. Dukes, Stan Andrew, Gio Crisafulli, Swann Gruen, Peter Bongiorno, Jamie Effros, Major Dodge and Jonathan Maccia.

Barely Balancing Artists, a non-profit theater company, was established specifically to bring this classic to the New York stage for the 50th Anniversary of the films release. Earlier this year, members of the cast took part in the documentary, Being James Dean, which will air across Europe in September. In June, members of the cast also performed at the first ever Dean Fest in Deans birthplace, Marion, Indiana.

Rebel Without A Cause is being produced by special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois.
