Promises, Promises announces further casting


Tony Goldwyn will star as 'J.D. Sheldrake,' with Katie Finneran as 'Marge MacDougall,' and Brooks Ashmanskas as 'Mr. Dobitch,' joining Sean Hayes and Tony and Kristin Chenoweth in the the first Broadway revival of Promises, Promises, book By Neil Simon, music by Burt Bacharach and lyrics by Hal David, which is to open at the Broadway Theatre on 25 Apr 2010, following previews from 28 Mar.

The musical will be choreographed by Tony Award winning choreographer Rob Ashford, who will also make his Broadway directorial debut with the show.

Further casting and creative team members will be announced in the near future.

Promises, Promises tells the story of the Consolidated Life Insurance Company and Chuck Baxter, one of its charming young employees. In an effort to advance at the company, Chuck lends executives his apartment for their extramarital romantic trysts. But things become slightly complicated when Fran Kubelik, the object of Chuck's affection, becomes the mistress of one of his executives.

The score to Promises, Promises contains the 1969 Grammy award winning song "I'll Never Fall in Love Again."

The original production of Promises, Promises debuted on Broadway in 1968 at the Shubert Theatre and ran for 1,268 performances through 1 Jan 1972. The production was nominated for eight Tony awards, winning for Best Actor in a Musical (Jerry Orbach) and Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Marian Mercer). The original cast recording was honored with a Grammy Award in 1969.

Tony Goldwyn (J.D. Sheldrake) is a director and actor whose New York Theater acting credits include Phillip Barry's 'Holiday' at the Circle in the Square, Theresa Rebeck's 'The Water's Edge' and 'Spike Heels' both at Second Stage, Craig Lucas' 'The Dying Gaul' at the Vineyard, an Obie Award winning performance in 'The Sum of Us' at the Cherry Lane, and 'Digby' at MTC. Goldwyn is best known for his performance in the film 'Ghost.'

Katie Finneran (Marge MacDougall) won a Tony Award for her performance in 'Noises Off.' She is currently starring in 'Love, Loss and What I Wore,' and recently starred in Theresa Rebeck's 'Mauritius' on Broadway for MTC, and Greg Kotis' 'Pig Farm' for Roundabout. Broadway credits include 'Sally Bowles' in 'Cabaret,' 'The Iceman Cometh,' Neil Simon's 'Proposals,' 'You Never Can Tell,' 'The Heiress,' 'In the Summerhouse,' 'My Favorite Year,' 'Two Shakespearean Actors' and 'On Borrowed Time.' She played a leading role in George Romero's movie, 'Night of the Living Dead.'

Brooks Ashmanskas' (Mr. Dobitch) Broadway credits include 'The Ritz,' 'Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me '(Tony nomination), 'The Producers,' 'Gypsy' (Sam Mendes, director), 'Little Me,' 'Dream,' 'How to Succeed...,' and 'On the Twentieth Century.'
