Prelude to a Kiss: announces full cast
Roundabout Theatre Company presents John Mahoney (Old Man), Annie Parisse (Rita) and Alan Tudyk (Peter) in a new Broadway production of Craig Lucas� romantic drama Prelude to a Kiss with Robin Bartlett (Mrs. Boyle) and James Rebhorn (Dr. Boyle), directed by Daniel Sullivan at the American Airlines Theatre.
Prelude to a Kiss will begin previews on 16 Feb 2007, and open 8 Mar 2007. This is a limited engagement through to 22 Apr 2007.
The cast will also include Francois Battiste (Tom), Brandon Dirden, MacIntyre Dixon (Minister), Marceline Hugot (Aunt Dorothy, Leah), Matthew Rauch (Taylor), John Rothman (Uncle Fred) and Karen Walsh.
In Prelude to a Kiss, Peter and Rita follow their whirlwind courtship with a storybook wedding. After a mysterious elderly man appears and kisses the bride at the wedding, the two lovers are sent on a magical journey that they will never forget. As they struggle to come to terms with their relationship and Rita�s nagging doubts, their love is put to the test by unknown forces.
John Mahoney made his Broadway debut in The House of Blue Leaves (1986) and for which he won a Tony for Best Featured Actor in a Play. Other recent theatre credits include David Mamet�s play Romance at the Almeida Theatre in London, The Drawer Boy at Steppenwolf, Dublin, and Galway, Ireland as well as the Geffen Theatre�s production of The Weir in Los Angeles.
Annie Parisse will be making her Broadway debut. Off-Broadway credits: The Credeaux Canvas (Playwright's Horizsons - 2001) and Monster (CSC Theatre - 2002). Ms Parisse was recently seen playing Sara in the off-Broadway production of The Internationalist (Vineyard Theatre 2006).
Alan Tudyk was last seen on Broadway in 2005 when he played Sir Lancelot in Spamalot. Tudyk made his Broadway debut in Epic Proportions (1999).
The design team for Prelude to a Kiss includes Santo Loquasto (sets), Jane Greenwood (costumes), Donald Holder (lights) and John Gromada (sound and original compositions).
Prelude to a Kiss received its world premiere Off-Broadway at the Circle Repertory Theatre in Feb 1990 starring Mary-Louise Parker and Alec Baldwin. The production transferred to Broadway on 1 May 1990 starring Mary-Louise Parker and Timothy Hutton receiving a Tony nomination for Best Play and becoming a Pulitzer Prize finalist. In 1992, Craig Lucas adapted his play for the feature film starring Meg Ryan and Alec Baldwin.
