New York, please look after this bear! Paddington: The Musical may be eyeing a 2027 Broadway transfer, producer Sonia Friedman revealed on the evening of the Olivier Awards for London theatre on April 12.
“I’d like it to be next year to keep the momentum going,” Friedman told Deadline.
Paddington won seven Oliviers, the most of any show at the 2026 ceremony, including Best New Musical, Best Director for Luke Sheppard (& Juliet), set and costume design awards, and numerous acting honors.
It was a favorite to sweep the awards, having become an instant critical and audience hit upon opening in London's West End in fall 2025. London Theatre's five-star Paddington review called it "pure theatre magic" and a "great big bear hug of a musical."
Paddington: The Musical is based on the British children's books about a young bear who travels from Peru to London, and it is produced by Friedman and Eliza Lumley. Further details about the show's New York plans have yet to be confirmed.
