Outside Mullingar: Peter Maloney joins cast

Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) have announced that Peter Maloney has replaced John Aylward in their production of John Patrick Shanley's Outside Mullingar, directed by Tony Award winning director Doug Hughes. Aylward has withdrawn from the production by mutual agreement.

Outside Mullingar opens at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 23 Jan 2014, following previews from 03 Jan 2014, and will play a strictly limited 11-week engagement through to 16 Mar 2014.

Maloney's Broadway credits include 'West Side Story' (2009 revival), 'To Be Or Not To Be,' 'Dinner at Eight' (2002 revival), 'Judgment at Nuremberg,' 'Stanley,' 'Arcadia,' 'Carousel' (1994 revival), 'Abe Lincoln in Illinois,' (1993 revival), 'Six Degrees of Separation,' 'Our Town' (1998 revival), 'Poor Murderer' and 'Hughie / Duet' (1975 revival).

Maloney joins the previously announced Tony Award winner Brían F. O'Byrne as 'Anthony' and Emmy Award winner Debra Messing as 'Rosemary' and Tony nominee Dearbhla Molloy as 'Aoife.'

Outside Mullingar: O'Byrne and Messing play Anthony and Rosemary, two introverted misfits straddling 40. Anthony has spent his entire life on a cattle farm in rural Ireland, a state of affairs that-due to his painful shyness-suits him well. Rosemary lives right next door, determined to have him, watching the years slip away. With Anthony's father threatening to disinherit him and a land feud simmering between their families, Rosemary has every reason to fear romantic catastrophe.

The creative team features set design by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Mark McCullough and sound by Fitz Patton.

The world premiere of Outside Mullingar reunites Shanley, Hughes, and O'Byrne who previously worked together on MTC's production of 'Doubt' which premiered at MTC at City Center, transferred to the Walter Kerr Theatre, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and four Tony Awards including Best Play for Shanley and Best Director of a Play for Hughes.
