One Night Together at the Duo Theatre

Duo Multicultural Arts Center and Downtown Music Productions presents One Night Together, a new chamber opera set in the Holocaust period, music by Daniel Burwasser, libretto by Ilsa Gilbert, conducted by Mimi Stern-Wolfe, at the Duo Theatre from 8 - 10 Feb 2008.

One Night Together: Set in Eastern Europe before, during, and after the Holocaust. Raphael, a Jewish survivor of a concentration camp, comes home to die, but first confronts his father Josef about issues of betrayal. Josef, a former professor and partisan, and now an impoverished boatman, tries to effect a reconciliation with his son and hopes for redemption. Through flashbacks we see Josef's sweetheart Anya, a Christian woman, also a professor and a partisan who died fighting in the war. Through the lives of the three protagonists and Raphael's deceased mother, the opera explores the larger reality of the Holocaust.

Directed by Michael Alasa, One Night Together features Gilles Denizot (tenor), Steven Goldstein (tenor) and Vanessa Salaz (soprano).
