The Off-Broadway run of Howard Crabtree's When Pigs Fly has been cancelled due to "a shortfall in the show's investment", according to producers. The musical comedy, which previously ran off-Broadway from 1996 to 1998, was scheduled to return for an open-ended off-Broadway engagement at Stage 42. Previews were set to begin on October 6, 2017, before an official opening on October 30.

Conceived by Howard Crabtree & Mark Waldrop, When Pigs Fly features a book & lyrics by Mr Waldrop, with music by Dick Gallagher.

Synopsis: "Howard Crabtree's When Pigs Fly stars a character named Howard, not unlike Mr. Crabtree. In a hastily booked theatre under renovation, Howard struggles to put on a lavish musical revue over numerous obstacles, including the near-mutiny of his cast, and the nagging memory of his high school guidance counselor, who told him he'd succeed 'when pigs fly.' Just when it seems all is lost, Howard realizes the problem isn't that he's gone too far - it's that he hasn't gone far enough. The show goes on, and all of Howard's fabulously sequined dreams come true."

Under the direction of Mark Waldrop himself, the cast was set to feature Jordan Ahnquist (as Howard), alongside Taylor Crousure, Jacob Hoffman, Brian Charles Rooney, Frank Viveros, Cameron Mitchell Bell and Paul Sabala.

The creative team featured music direction by Ed Goldschneider, choreography by Tony nominee Denis Jones, costume design by 9-time Emmy Award winner Bob Mackie (with Joe McFate as associate costume designer), scenic design by Adam Koch, lighting design by Julie Duro and sound design by Ian Werhle.

When Pigs Fly was to be produced off-Broadway by Joshua Goodman, Louise Hall Beard, and Gene Fisch Jr., in association with NewYorkRep.
