New York Premiere of The Opponent - 59E59 Theater C

Newly formed production company A Red Orchid NYC will present the New York premiere of Brett Neveu's The Opponent, directed by Karen Kessler, playing at 59E59 Theater C from 31 Jul through to 07 Sep 2014, opening on 07 Aug 2014.

The production stars Kamal Angelo Bolden (Donell), Guy Van Swearingen (Tre), who will reprise the roles they first created when the drama played at the A Red Orchid Theatre in Chicago in 2012, which was also directed by Karen Kessler.

The Opponent: Takes a look at the hard scrabble world of boxing from the perspective of a small time gym owner and a young up-and-comer. They come from different worlds, they barely understand each other, but in the ring anything is possible. Questions of loyalty and life's dreams are put to the test in this explosive New York premiere that promises to pull some punches and fearlessly land the other.

The Opponent will be A Red Orchid NYC's inaugural production. The newly created production company is a collaborative partnership between A Red Orchid Theatre, a Chicago resident theatre company and Bisno Productions, who recently produced Tony-nominated Mothers and Sons at Broadway's John Golden Theatre.
