'Naked Boys Singing!' celebrates 6th Anniversary

Naked Boys Singing! turns 6 years old on the 22 Jul 2005, playing its 2265 performance on the 22 Jul at The Julia Miles Theater.

Naked Boys Singing!, the 9th longest running Off-Broadway show ever, currently stars Michael Chapman, Charles Duff, Gavin Esham, Frank Galgano, Brian M. Golub, Timothy John, Scott McLean, David Macaluso, Lance Olds, Phil Simmons and Trevor Southworth in this 65 minute tribute to the male form.

The title says it all! Caution - and costumes are thrown to the wind in this musical revue featuring an original score of 16 songs and a cast of 8 gorgeous guys. A handful of hunks display their special charms as they celebrate the splendors of male nudity in comedy, song and dance.

The show features such tunes as 'Gratuitous Nudity' and 'Bliss of a Bris' and the shows perennial favorite, 'Fight the Urge'.

Producer, Martian Entertainments Carl D. White, says We are very proud of our cast and company for its long running success. The show has been translated into five languages, and been performed in over 45 cities worldwide. This fifteen song, eight man show has grossed over $7 million in its time in the theatrical landscape. Productions are currently playing in New York, New York; Chicago, IL; Portland, Maine; and a national tour across Europe.

Naked Boys Singing! has also been the source of controversy. Productions in Atlanta, San Juan and Provincetown were raided by police and shut down, under allegations of indecency and public nudity, only to be vindicated by the court system in each city as a legitimate theatrical presentation. The New York City production was also the center of a controversy during last years Republican Convention. The show was removed by the RNC from a discount offer to its membership based on the title, effectively censoring the show to the incoming delegates from across the nation. In the face of adversity the show has lasted with packed houses and enthusiastic audiences.

The show has also undergone some changes over the last six years. After opening in 1999 at the Actors Playhouse in the West Village, the New York Production has moved three times in the 2004 2005 season: First to Theatre Four, then to the (now closed) John Houseman Theater, followed with a stint at the 47th Street Theatre, and finally returning to Theatre Four, now named The Julia Miles Theater after a renovation under the guidance of the owners.

Naked Boys Singing! is Produced by Jamie Cesa, Carl D. White, Hugh Hayes and Tom Smedes and Directed and Conceived by Robert Schrock and Choreographed by Jeffry Denman.
