Mysteries and smaller pieces at the Living Theatre
After their production of The Brig, which ran from 26 Sep - 30 Sep 2007, the Living Theatre Company presents Mysteries and Smaller Pieces at the Living Theatre from 11 Oct - 11 Nov 2007.
Mysteries and Smaller Pieces begins with a reprise of elements of 'The Brig': a man at attention, soldiers marching in unison and then moves into a series of rituals designed to liberate the performers and audience. It was the first play to be presented on the world's major stages without fictional characters, plot, scenery or costumes, the virtually wordless composition redefines the nature of theater as pure communication between performers and between performers and audience.
Mysteries and Smaller Pieces is a recreation of the 1964 collective creation. Created directly after the company had been playing 'The Brig' for several years.
Performed by Judith Malina, founder of the Living Theatre Company, with members who have worked for decades together and new, young members who have just arrived.
