MTC to produce Broadway premiere of Prince of Broadway

The Manhattan Theatre Club will officially present the Broadway premiere of the musical Prince of Broadway, by special arrangement with Gorgeous Entertainment, which celebrates the life and career of the 21-time Tony-winning director and producer Harold Prince.

Previews will begin at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 3 August 2017, before an official opening on 24 August.

Harold Prince released the following statement:

"Of course I'm delighted that many of my favorite artists will be interpreting the material from a lifetime of work."
Prince of Broadway features a book by David Thompson, with new songs, musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations, by Jason Robert Brown. The production is directed by Harold Prince himself, with co-direction and choreography by Susan Stroman.

Synopsis: "Prince of Broadway includes songs from many of the shows that earned Harold Prince a record 21 Tony Awards, and biographical material as well. Mr Prince is a legend in the American theatre - the acclaimed director and producer behind a long list of America's most iconic musicals. Now, he's bringing together six decades of magical moments in a new musical event, Prince of Broadway. This thrilling night of theatre includes hits from such celebrated musicals as West Side Story, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Evita, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, The Phantom of the Opera and more, in an unforgettable tribute to an unmatched Broadway career."

The creative team behind Prince of Broadway features musical direction by Fred Lassen, scenic & projection design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Howell Binkley, wig design by Paul Huntley.

Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller will serve as creative consultant.

Casting for the Broadway premiere will be announced at a later date, however, during the tuner's world premiere in Japan last year, the cast included Ramin Karimloo, Shuler Hensley, Tony Yazbeck, Emily Skinner, Josh Grisetti, Bryonha Marie Parham, Mariand Torres, Nancy Opel, Reon Yuzuki and Kaley Ann Voorhees.
