Mauritius: Doug Hughes to direct Bobby Cannavale and Alison Pill to star


The Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) have announced that their upcoming Broadway premiere production of Theresa Rebeck�s Mauritius will be directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes. The production will star Bobby Cannavale and Alison Pill.

The dark comedy will be the first production of MTC�s 2007-2008 season. The production will begin previews at the Biltmore Theatre on 13 Sep 2007 and will open on 4 Oct 2007.

Jackie (Alison Pill) and Mary are half-sisters whose mother's death leaves them in possession of a rare stamp collection. But which sister actually owns the stamps? Which of three dealers can be trusted with their sale? And where do we choose to live: the present or the past?

Additional casting for the production will be announced at a later date.

Theresa Rebeck (Playwright) will be making her Broadway debut with Mauritius. Past New York productions include The Scene, The Water�s Edge, Spike Heels, Loose Knit and The Family of Mann, Bad Dates and The Butterfly Collection.

Doug Hughes (Diector) is currently represented on Broadway with the Tony nominated revival of Inherit The Wind starring Brian Dennehy and Christopher Plummer. He won the 2005 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Play for Doubt (2005). Other Broadway credits: Frozen (2004), A Naked Girl on the Appian Way (2005) and A Touch of the Poet (2005 revival).

Bobby Cannavale (Dennis) is making his Broadway debut in Mauritius. His Off-Broadway credits include the New Group�s revival of Hurlyburly and Suzan Lori Parks� Fucking A at The Public. Cannavale received a 2005 Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his recurring role as Vince D�Angelo, Will Truman�s boyfriend on 'Will & Grace.'

Alison Pill (Jackie) currently plays Una in MTC�s production of Blackbird for which she received nominations by the Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Awards. She made her Broadway debut in the Atlantic's production of The Lieutenant of Inishmore (2006), for which she was nominated for the 2006 Tony Award Best Featured Actress in a Play.
