Marat/Sade at the Access Theatre Gallery Space
Push Productions, Inc. presents Marat/Sade, by Peter Weiss, opens at the Access Theatre Gallery Space on 3 Jun 2006, following previews from 1 Jun and running through to the 1 Jul 2006.
Marat/Sade is about the performance of a play by inmates of an early 1800s insane asylum, with script & direction by the infamous Marquis de Sade. The story of the play concerns the assassination of the revolutionary Marat by Charlotte Corday, but the play itself becomes a debate between various characters, all played by mentally-ill inmates of the asylum. The debate is further fueled by their insanity, unpredictability as performers & the staff's reactions to both their behavior & the often subversive nature of the script they play out.
Directed by Michael Kimmel, Marat/Sade features Sarah Bell, Robert Chaney, Matt DeVriendt, Tom Escovar, Anneka Fagundes, Iain Hoskins, Alan Jestice, Jessica Jolly, Richardson Jones, Carl Louis, Shannon Macmillan, Mitch Malnati, Claire Mannle, Caitlin Mulhern, Brian Reilly, Rob Seitelman, Graham Skipper, Johnny Sparks, Jona Tuck, Kit Williamson & Amy Wolf.
The play is choreographed by Rachel Klein, with set and lighting design by Ben Kato and costumes by Jessica Gaffney.
