'Mamma Mia! celebrates four years on Broadway
The musical Mamma Mia!, celebrated four years on Broadway with its performance on Tuesday the 18 Oct 2005.
Mamma Mia! opened at the Cadillac Winter Garden on the 18 Oct 2001, following previews from the 5 Oct. The show is currently booking to the 16 Apr 2006.
Wed 19 Oct 2005 is the musicals first performance in its fifth year on Broadway, and sees Husband and wife Broadway stars John Dossett and Michele Pawk, Carey Anderson, as well as Samantha Eggers, Andy Kelso, Olivia Oguma and Olga Merediz all take to the stage.
Michele Pawk, star of the musicals Cabaret, Chicago and Seussical, plays Donna Sheridan opposite her husband John Dossett as Sam Carmichael as the new Lunts* of Broadway!
*Alfred Lunt performed with his wife Lynn Fontanne in many stage productions, including Pygmalion (1926) and Quadrille (1952-1955).
In Mamma Mia!, Sam returns to the Greek island where the young lovers met twenty years earlier. In real life, Dossett and Pawk first met while performing together in Lincoln Center�s Hello Again in 1993 and have not worked together since.
Husband and wife were both nominated for 2003 Tony Awards. Michele Pawk received her first nomination and win for her performance in Carrie Hamilton and Carol Burnett�s Hollywood Arms, while John Dossett received a nomination for his work opposite Bernadette Peters� Rose in the Broadway revival of Gypsy.
Olga Merediz joins the cast as Rosie and Judy McLane continues as Tanya, Donna�s best friends and former back-up band who reunite for the wedding of Donna�s daughter, Sophie.
Bride to be Sophie Sheridan will be played by Carey Anderson, who comes direct from the musical's National tour, where she understudied and performed the role of Sophie. Her fianc�, Sky, will be played by Andy Kelso. This will mark the Broadway debuts of both actors. Olivia Oguma and Samantha Eggers join the cast as Sophie�s best friends, Ali and Lisa.
David Beach and Mark L. Montgomery continue in the roles of Harry Bright and Bill Austin, the two other men from Donna�s past.
The cast also features Samantha Eggers as Lisa, one of Sophie�s best friends, and Sky�s sidekicks Albert Guerzon as Eddie and Ben Gettinger as Pepper and an ensemble featuring Meredith Akins, Brent Black, Jen Burleigh-Bentz, Angela Ara Brown, Isaac Calpito, Christopher Carl, Lanene Charters, Shakiem Evans, Bryan Scott Johnson, Jon-Erik Goldberg, Carol Linnea Johnson, Megan Osterhaus, Sandy Rosenberg, Janet Rothermel, Ryan Sander, Patrick Sarb, Ryan-Michael Shaw, Britt Shubow, Collette Simmons, Mackenzie Thomas and Leah Zepel.
Inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA�s timeless songs, writer Catherine Johnson�s tale of family and friendship unfolds on a tiny Greek island. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter�s quest to discover the identity of her father brings 3 men from her mother�s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. Songs including �Dancing Queen�; �The Winner Takes It All�; �Money, Money, Money� and �Take A Chance on Me� are all featured in this feel-good night of fun and laughter.
This original musical has music & Lyrics by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, Book by Catherine Johnson and is directed by Phyllida Lloyd, with choreography by Anthony Van Laast.
Mamma Mia! has set designs by Mark Thompson, lighting by Howard Harrison and sound by Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken.
