Macbeth: Anne-Marie Duff to make her Broadway debut
Lincoln Center Theater has announced that the Bafta and Olivier Award nominated British actress Anne-Marie Duff will make her New York stage debut as 'Lady Macbeth,' starring opposite Ethan Hawke, in its upcoming production of Shakespeare's Macbeth, directed by Jack O'Brien.
The production will open at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on 21 Nov 2013, following previews from 24 Oct 2013, and playing through to 12 Jan 2014.
Additional casting for Macbeth will be announced at a later date.
When three witches tell Macbeth that he is destined to occupy the throne of Scotland, he and his wife choose to become the instruments of their fate and to kill the first man standing in their path, the virtuous King Duncan. But to maintain his position, Macbeth must keep on killing - first Banquo, his old comrade-in-arms; then, as the atmosphere of guilt and paranoia thickens, anyone who seems to threaten his tyrant's crown.
The creative team features sets by Scott Pask, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Japhy Weideman and original music and sound by Mark Bennett.

Anne-Marie Duff (Lady Macbeth), who is currently starring in London in the National Theatre's production of 'Strange Interlude,' was nominated for an Olivier Award for her performance in the title role of 'St. Joan,' also at the National. Her many other credits both at the National Theatre and in London's West End include 'Collected Stories' (Olivier Award nomination - Best Supporting Actress), 'King Lear,' 'War and Peace,' 'La Grande Magia' and 'Vassa.' She has starred on British television in "Elizabeth - The Virgin Queen" (BAFTA nomination - Best Actress) and the series "Shameless" (BAFTA nomination - Best Actress). In film, she was nominated for a British Independent Film Award for Best Actress and a BAFTA award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Nowhere Boy."
Ethan Hawke (Macbeth), star of the films "Before Midnight" and "The Purge," returns to Lincoln Center Theater where he was directed by Jack O'Brien in the Tony Award winning productions of 'Henry IV' and 'The Coast of Utopia,' for which he was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance as 'Michael Bakunin.'
Jack O'Brien directed the current LCT production of 'The Nance' and won Tony Awards for his direction of both 'The Coast of Utopia' and 'Henry IV.' His other LCT credits include 'The Invention of Love' (Tony Award nomination), 'Pride's Crossing,' 'The Little Foxes,' 'Hapgood' (Lucille Lortel Award) and 'Two Shakespearean Actors' (Tony Award nomination).
