Lying at the Village Theater

blessed unrest presents Lying, by Jessica Burr & Matt Opatrny, adapted from the memoir by Lauren Slater, playing at the Village Theater from 12 - 17 Aug 2006, as part of the New York International Fringe Festival.

Lying tells the story of Lauren, a precocious girl with a compulsion to lie, as she comes of age in a grownup world. Along the way she encounters a gaggle of teenage girls, a flock of nuns, adoring doctors, and a very famous lover. Lauren bends truth and uses metaphor in the telling of her playful, impish tale, shaped, if it could be, like a question mark.

Directed by Damen Scranton, Lying features Becca Blackwell, Jessica Burr, Matt Opatrny, Jesse Webster and Laura Wickens.

Lighting by Ben Tevelow, with sound by Jill B.C. DuBoff.
