Lillias White to return to 'Hadestown' on Broadway

In September 2022, she made history as the first female performer to play Hermes in the long-running, Tony Award-winning musical at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

She's going back down to Hadestown! Tony Award winner Lillias White will return to the Hadestown Broadway cast, performing at the Walter Kerr Theatre from October 22.

White will return to the role of Hermes, whom she first played from September 2022 to March 2024. She made history as the first female performer to play the role originated by Tony winner André De Shields. White is also known for her Tony-winning performance in The Life and Tony-nominated performance in Fela!

In Hadestown, White will replace Stephanie Mills, who plays her final performance as Hermes on October 20. As previously announced, current cast member Yola will also play her final performance as Persephone that day. Lana Gordon will star as Persephone from October 22 to November 10, followed by Allison Russell from November 12.

The current Hadestown Broadway cast also includes Jordan Fisher as Orpheus, Phillip Boykin as Hades, Maia Reficco as Eurydice, and Belen Moyano, Jessie Shelton, and Brit West as the Fates.

Created by Anaïs Mitchell, Hadestown is a retelling of Greek mythology with folk and jazz music. When Orpheus loses his love, Eurydice, as she descends to the underground Hadestown, he goes on a dangerous journey to save her.
