Leslie Odom, Jr. & Katharine McPhee to announce 2018 Tony Awards nominations
The nominees will be announced on Tuesday May 1, 2018 at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing have officially confirmed that "Smash" alumni Leslie Odom, Jr. (a 2016 Tony Award winner for originating the role of Aaron Burr in smash hit musical Hamilton) and Katharine McPhee (currently making her long-awaited Broadway debut as Jenna in Waitress) will co-host the Nominations Announcement for the biggest night in Broadway's theatre calendar, The 72nd Annual Tony Awards, on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.
All Broadway productions in the 2017-2018 season, who officially open on or before the eligibility cut-off date of Thursday, April 26, 2018 (and meet all other requirements) can be considered for nominations.
Mr. Odom, Jr. has also appeared in the original Broadway productions of Leap of Faith and Rent. He was most recently seen on the silver screen as Dr. Arbuthnot in "Murder on the Orient Express and also starred as Declan 'Winky' Hall in 2012's "Red Tails". Ms. McPhee shot to fame on the fifth season of "American Idol" and can currently be seen as Paige Dineen on the TV series "Scorpion". The pair previously worked together on the Broadway-centric musical series "Smash" with Mr. Odom, Jr. playing Sam Strickland and Ms. McPhee portraying Karen Cartwright on the NBC show.
The 72nd Annual Tony Awards will take place on Sunday, June 10, 2017 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Continuing the tradition, CBS will broadcast the ceremony live, as it has done since 1978. CBS has now extended its contract with the Tony Awards through to 2026.
