Lead Cast Announced for Red Eye of Love off-Broadway

It has been announced that actors Josh Grisetti and Alli Mauzey will lead the cast of the New York premiere of Red Eye of Love which opens at the Dicapo Opera Theatre on 4 September, following previews from 27 August, running through 28 Sep 2014.

The new musical is based on the 1961 play of the same name by the late Arnold Weinstein, who also provides the book and lyrics to the show, alongside John Wulp. The show features music by Sam Davis and will be directed by Tony Award-Winner Ted Sperling.

Red Eye of Love is described as a "mad-cap musical love triangle" set against a background of 20th Century Boom Time, War and Depression. A young, forthright idealist finds themselves pitted against a jaded materialist who works at a meat-only department store as they both compete for the girl they love.

The full cast for the production includes Josh Grisetti, Alli Mauzey, Kevin Pariseau, Dylan Boyd, Katie Chung, Sam Tanabe, Daniel Lynn Evans, Tracie Franklin, Katie Hagen, and Daniel May.

Red Eye of Love began life as a straight play by Arnold Weinstein, opening at The Living Theatre in 1961. The first musical version was attempted in the 1980s, and a reading of the show as part of The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's National Music Theater Conference in 2007, which at the time featured music by Jan Warner. The musical received its world premiere in North Haven in 2013 with Davis as composer. Donna Trinkoff, Amas Artistic Producer has described the show as "a primal, comic tug-of-war between the '1%' and everyone else that tells a 'tale of two cities' that couldn't be more perfectly timed or better humored."

The creative team includes scenic design by Robert Indiana, costume design by Martha Bromelmeier, lighting design by Matthew Richards, projections by David Wilson, and choreography by Lainie Sakakura and Alex Sanchez.
