Kinky Boots moves first preview forward to 3 Mar 2013
The world premiere of Kinky Boots, a new musical featuring a book by Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy) and, music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning Cyndi Lauper, has moved its first preview forward by two days.
Originally scheduled to begin previews on 05 Mar 2013, the show will now begin previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on 03 Mar 2013. The musical will still open on 4 Apr 2013 as originally announced.
Directed and choreographed by Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell (La Cage aux Folles), the musical will have it's world premiere at Chicago's Bank of America Theatre from 2 Oct - 4 Nov 2012, in advance of it's Broadway opening.
The musical will star Tony Award nominee Stark Sands (Journey's End) and Billy Porter (Angels in Aerica - Signature Theatre Company) leading a cast of thirty-two that also includes Annaleigh Ashford, Celina Carvajal, Daniel Sherman, Marcus Neville, Paul Canaan, Kevin Smith Kirkwood, Kyle Taylor Parker, Kyle Post, Charlie Sutton, Joey Taranto, Andy Kelso, Tory Ross, Jen Perry, Josh Caggiano, Aaron Bantum, Adinah Alexander, Eric Anderson, Eugene Barry-Hil, Stephen Berge, Caroline Bowman, Sandra DeNise, Eric Leviton, Ellyn Marie Marsh, John Jeffrey Martin, Nathan Peck, Robert Pendilla, Lucia Spina, Sebastian Hedges Thomas, Marquise Neal and Clifton Oliver
In Kinky Boots, Charlie Price (Sands) is forced to step in and save his family's shoe factory in Northern England following the sudden death of his father. Help comes from the unlikeliest angel, a fabulous drag performer named Lola (Porter). Together, this improbable duo revitalizes the failing business, while stepping out from their fathers' shadows and transforming an entire community through the power of acceptance.
Kinky Boots is based on the 2005 British comedy movie of the same name, written by Geoff Deane and Tim Firth.
The musical is being produced by Daryl Roth and Hal Luftigm and features sets by David Rockwell, costumes by Gregg Barnes, lighting by Kenneth Posner and sound by John Shivers (Sound Design).
