Kiki and Herb: Alive on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre
Kiki and Herb, the downtown song-and-booze comedy cabaret artists, make their Broadway debut in Kiki and Herb: Alive on Broadway.
Kiki and Herb: Alive on Broadway opens at the Helen Hayes Theatre on 15 Aug 2006, following previews from 11 Aug and run through to 10 Sep 2006.
The show will play a strictly four-week limited engagement, filling the Helen Hayes Theatre between Bridge and Tunnel, which closes on 6 Aug 2006, and Jay Johnson: The Two and Only!, which begins performances on 19 Sep 2006.
Kiki Durane (Justin Bond) is a slightly drunken drag cabaret artist who shares her unique brand of social commentry and political satire, Herb (Kenny Mellman) is her 'shy' musical accompanist and life-long friend. They will offer their own interpretation of songs by such artists as The Cure, Bob Merrill, the Wu-Tang Clan, Bright Eyes, Dan Fogelberg, and The Mountain Goats.
Kiki and Herb were last seen in New York in Sep 2004 when they filled Carnegie Hall with their show 'Kiki & Herb Will Die For You.' Publicity for Kiki and Herb: Alive on Broadway states, "As fate would have it, they didn't expire as they hoped and promised following that unprecedented event."
Together as Kiki & Herb, Justin Bond and Kenny Mellman have been entertaining audiances with their political barbs, satarical social commentry and unique delivery of songs by popular artists.
Kiki and Herb: Alive on Broadway features set design by Scott Pask, costumes by Marc Happel, lighting by Jeff Croiter and sound by Brett Jarvis.
