Kerry Washington & Steven Pasquale will star in American Son on Broadway
The Broadway premiere of American Son begins performances at the Booth Theatre on October 6, 2018.
Golden Globe & Emmy Award nominee Kerry Washington and Drama Desk nominee Steven Pasquale will officially return to the Great White Way this fall to star in the Broadway premiere of American Son, written by Christopher Demos-Brown and directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon. Previews begin at the Booth Theatre on October 6, 2018, ahead of an official opening on November 4 and a limited engagement through to January 27, 2019.
Ms. Washington, star of TV's "Scandal", commented: "Christopher Demos-Brown has written a play that dives deep into the big questions of who we are as a nation, by exploring the intimate relationships within a family caught at the crossroads of love, loss, identity and community. After reading the script I was immediately enthralled by the world of the play and the gripping circumstances that these characters are facing. I am excited to step into the ring with Kenny & Steve to tell this story on Broadway."
Kerry Washington (Kendra Ellis-Connor) previously made her Broadway debut in the 2009 premiere of Race, written and directed by David Mamet, at the Barrymore Theatre. Her recurring role as Olivia Pope on seven seasons of "Scandal" has made her a household name and earned her two Emmy Award nominations (in 2013 and 2014) and a Golden Globe nomination in 2014. She also earned Emmy Award and Golden Globe nominations for "Confirmation" in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Other notable screen credits include "Django Unchained," "The Last King of Scotland," "Save the Last Dance," "How to Get Away with Murder," "Fantastic Four," and "Cars 3," among many others.
Steven Pasquale (Scott Connor), perhaps best known for his TV roles as Sean Garrity on seven seasons of "Rescue Me" and as Detective Mark Fuhrman in "The People Vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story", last appeared on the Broadway stage in the Lincoln Theater Center production of Junk. He earned a Drama Desk nomination in 2014 for originating the role of Robert in The Bridges of Madison County and he made his Broadway debut as Kent in Reasons to be Pretty in 2009. His off-Broadway credits include Roundabout's The Robber Bridegroom, Playwrights Horizons' Far From Heaven, and Lincoln Center Theater's A Man of No Importance, among others.
In addition, Eugene Lee, who previously made his Broadway debut as Eli in the 2004 Broadway premiere of Gem of the Ocean, has also been cast as Lieutenant John Stokes.
Synopsis: "Do you know where your children are? A Florida police station in the middle of the night; a mother searching for her missing teenage son. American Son is a gripping tale of two parents caught in our national divide, with their worst fears hanging in the balance."
The creative team behind American Son features scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Dede Ayite and sound design by Peter Fitzgerald. Additional casting and creative team information will be announced at a later date.
American Son is produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards, Simpson Street, LLC, Rebecca Gold, Will Trice, Stephen Byrd, Alia Jones-Harvey, Bruce Robert Harris & Jack W. Batman, Greenleaf Productions, Van Kaplan and Gabrielle Palitz.
American Son Tickets are available now for performances from October 6, 2018 through to January 27, 2019.
