Kate Barry's autobiographical 'Kate, Allie and the '86 Mets' to open off Broadway
Kate Barry's comedy is inspired by the true story of two mothers — Grace and Dorothy — who blended their families to create an unconventional family built on mutual support.
Emmy-nominated television producer, writer, and storyteller Kate Barry brings her autobiographical solo show Kate, Allie and the '86 Mets to Asylum NYC from November 5–10.
The comedy, which ran at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, is inspired by the true story of two mothers — Grace and Dorothy — who blended their families to create an unconventional family built on mutual support. Years later, Kate (their eldest daughter) discovered that this story of female friendship was actually a love story.
Directed by Alex Kagy, the show combines an entertaining mix of personal storytelling, archival family photographs, video, nostalgic 1980s music.
Barry's credits include Gone Girls, Sally, Enigma, Titan, Take Care of Maya, I'll Be Gone in the Dark, and Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross.
The creative team also includes editing and sound design by Krystalline Armendariz and prop design by Amber Unkle.
