Last night at 6:45pm Broadway's marquee lights were dimmed in tribute to the passing of Tony nominee and Comedian Joan Rivers after all. The Broadway League reversed their decision, after coming under criticism and online petitions from angry fans of Ms Rivers.

Charlotte St. Martin, Executive Director of the Broadway League, released the following statement: "Joan Rivers loved Broadway and we loved her. Due to the outpouring of love and respect for Joan Rivers from our community and from her friends and fans worldwide, the marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in her memory."

Joan Rivers was nominated for the 1994 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her portrayal of Sally Marr in 'Sally Marr...and her escorts' at the Helen Hayes Theatre. She also appeared as Kate in 'Broadway Bound' at the Broadhurst Theatre in the late 1980s and as Jill Fairchild in 'Fun City' in 1972.
