Jekyll & Hyde to close on 12 May 2013

The new Broadway production of Jekyll & Hyde, starring Constantine Maroulis and Deborah Cox - will play the final performance of its final performance on Sunday, May 12, 2013, after 15 previews and 30 regular performances at the Marquis Theatre.

Frank Wildhorn's Jekyll & Hyde opened at the Marquis Theatre on 18 Apr 2013, following previews from 05 Apr 2013, it was originally scheduled to play a 13-week limited Broadway engagement through to 30 Jun 2013.

The musical opened to mixed, but mostly poor reviews: There is no passion. There is no obsession. And it ain't thrilling (newyorktheatreguide.com); Over-the-top bloody hoot (NYDN); Dispiriting slog (NYP); I've seen a few worse shows (Record); Fiendishly entertaining (Newsroom Jersey); Decidedly underwhelming (Hollywood Reporter).

Jekyll & Hyde is based on the classic 19th century British novella 'The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde,' by the Scottish author Robert Louise Stephenson. It tells the story of gentle Dr Jekyll, who while experimenting on himself to discover a cure for his father's mental illness, changes into the animalistic Mr. Hyde.

The musical was conceived for the stage by Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden, and features music by Wildhorn (Bonie & Clyde, Wonderland), with book and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse.

The musical stars Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis (Rock of Ages) in the dual title role of 'Dr. Henry Jekyll' & 'Edward Hyde' and Grammy-nominated R&B superstar Deborah Cox as 'Lucy'.

The complete principal cast features Teal Wicks as 'Emma Carew' are Laird Mackintosh as 'John Utterson' and Richard White as 'Sir Danvers Carew.'

Rounding out the cast are David Benoit, Jerry Christakos, Dana Costello, Wendy Fox, Brian Gallagher, Sean Jenness, Mel Johnson Jr., Miles Johnson, James Judy, Ashley Loren, Courtney Markowitz, Aaron Ramey, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Rob Richardson, Blair Ross, Doug Storm, Haley Swindal and Jason Wooten.

The creative team features sets and costumes Tobin Ost, lighting by Jeff Croiter, and sound design by Ken Travis.

A pre-tour preview engagement of Jekyll & Hyde was presented at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in La Mirada, California from 7-30 Sep 2012. The 25-week national tour launched on 2 Oct 2012 at San Diego's Civic Theatre.

The musical is produced by Nederlander Presentations, Inc., Independent Presenters Network, Chunsoo Shin, Luigi Caiola and Stewart F. Lane/Bonnie Comley.
