It looks like DreamWorks Theatricals may be heading back to the Great White Way in the not-too-distance. The company's premiere Broadway production Shrek The Musical played at the Broadway Theatre from November 2008 to January 2010, and it may now be the turn of DreamWorks' animated musical feature film The Prince of Egypt to grace the boards.

Broadway favourite Stephen Schwartz is reportedly attached to the project, after writing the film's songs and winning an Oscar in 1999 for Best Original Song (for "When You Believe"). The track was also famously recorded as a duet by Mariah Carey and the late Whitney Houston. Other songs include "Deliver Us," "Through Heaven's Eyes," and "Playing with the Big Boys." Hans Zimmer also wrote the score to the film.

There will indeed be a premiere concert reading of the stage adaptation's first act on 11 July in Sag Harbor at the Long Wharf as part of Bay Street Theater's 24th Annual Summer Gala. The reading will be helmed by Scott Schwartz and will feature a Book by Philip LaZebnik, who also co-wrote the screenplay.

The cast includes the following Broadway alumni, and one can only hope that they may be part of the full Broadway staging in the future: Patina Miller as Tzipporah, Matthew James Thomas as Moses, Aaron Lazar as Ramses, Norm Lewis as Jethro, Stephen Bogardus as Seti and Julia Murney as Queen Tuya.

Synopsis: Based on the Book of Exodus, the musical follows the life of Moses from being a Prince of Egypt to his ultimate destiny to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt.

No timeline has been announced for a Broadway production... But it will happen... When you believe!
