'I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change,' celebrated its 9th anniversary
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, the longest-running Off-Broadway musical on the boards, celebrated its ninth anniversary on on the 1 Aug 2005.
The musical opened at the Westside Theatre Upstairs on the 1 Aug 1996, following previews from the 15 Jul 1996.
The musical celebrates the modern-day suburban mating game, as the cast explores the joys of dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives, and in-laws.
The cast, directed by Joel Bishoff, features Courtney Balan, Anne Bobby, Jordan Leeds, and Colin Stokes portraying over 60 roles in a varied collection of scenes and songs.
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change has played more than 3700 performances, surpassing the Broadway runs of such musicals as'My Fair Lady' 'Annie,' 'South Pacific,' 'Oklahoma!,' 'Grease,' '42nd Street,' 'Fiddler on the Roof,' and 'Hello, Dolly!'
Additional productions of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change have been mounted in more than 250 cities worldwide including Los Angeles, Toronto, Boston, Chicago, London, Tel Aviv, Mexico City, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Budapest, Sydney, Prague, Seoul, Milan, Rio de Janeiro, and Johannesburg, grossing over 80 million dollars.
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change is the most proposal-friendly show in town. Forty-nine times, a young man has taken the stage to make a surprise proposal to his sweetheart. In all cases, the brides-to-be happily accepted as the audience roared with approval.
The show is written by playwright/lyricist Joe DiPietro and composer Jimmy Roberts. Joe DiPietro was commissioned by the Elvis Presley estate to create the new Broadway musical, 'All Shook Up.' Directed by Joel Bishoff, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change is presented by James Hammerstein Productions, Bernie Kukoff and Jonathan Pollard.
The musical has set design by Neil Peter Jampolis, costume by Candice Donnelly, lighting by Mary Louise Geiger and sound by Sound by Duncan Edwards.
