Hugh Jackman: Concert show may arrive in Oct 2011

 

Michael Riedel of the New York Post reports that Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman will bring his show, Hugh Jackman in Concert, to Broadway for an eight-week engagement opening at the Broadhurst Theatre on 25 Oct 2012. There has been no official confirmation.

Australian actor Hugh Jackman, known to action/fantasy film buffs for his portrayal of "The Wolverine" in the X-Men film franchise,' is using the delay in the filming of the next movie in the series to bring his concert to the Great White Way.

The actor has performed the show, which consists mostly of classic songs from the musicals, in both San Francisco and Toronto earier this year.

Jackman's career began in musical theatre, performing in such shows as "Beauty and the Beast" and "Sunset Boulevard" in Austrailia. In 1998 he starred in the lead role of "Curly," in the National Theatre's production of "Oklahoma!," directed by Trevor Nunn, which transferred to London's West End and earned Jackman an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical. He then went on to star in the 1999 film version of the musical.

 

 

In 2004 Jackman won a Tony Award when he made his Broadway debut in the musical "The Boy From Oz." He last appeared on Broadway as "Danny," starring along side Daniel Craig, in the 2009 production of Keith Huff's 'A Steady Rain.'

Jackman is set to star as "P.T. Barnum" in the upcoming musical film "The Greatest Showman on Earth," and as "Jean Valjean," in the upcoming movie of the musical, "Les Miserables," both of which are expected to be released in 2013 - though filming as yet to begin.
