'Hot Feet' to close on 23 Jul.

The new dance musical Hot Feet, based on the music of Earth, Wind & Fire, will close on Sun 23 Jul 2006. The musical had been booking to the 3 Sep 2006.

Hot Feet opened at the Hilton Theatre on the 30 Apr 2006, following previews from the 15 Apr. When the show closes it will have played 12 previews and 97 performances.

The musical opened to poor notices: The New York Times printed "Rarely can so much energy have been expended on a Broadway stage to such dubious ends." The washington Post said "The jaw-dropping truth: 'Hot Feet' is a serpentine misfire." and the New York Post wrote "Maurice Hines' dance- ical 'Hot Feet,' which limped enthusiastically into the Hilton Theatre, is barely lukewarm."

The show has struggled at the box office - with most weeks the theatre being less then half-full.

Hot Feet weaves a Faustian tale about a beautiful young dancer - Kalimba, whose whole lifes dreams and ambition are to be a Broadway dancer. Kalimba is cajoled to dance with a pair of magical and enchanted red shoes, when she puts them on they begin to take control of the talented dancers fate.

The book is written by Heru Ptah, featuring music and lyrics by Earth, Wind and Fire founder Maurice White and is directed and choreographed by Maurice Hines.

The cast featured Vivian Nixon, Mel Johnson, Jr., Ann Duquesnay, Allen Hidalgo, Wynonna Smith, Michael Balderrama, Samantha Pollino and Sarah Livingston.

The musical is being produced on Broadway by TransAmerica, Rudy Durand in association with Kalimba Entertainment, Inc.

Hot Feet has sets by Jim Noone, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lights by Clifton Taylor and sound by Acme Sound Partners.
