Honeymoon in Vegas: Spring 2013 Broadway opening

As previously rumored, a stage adaptation of the 1992 Nicolas Cage film, Honeymoon in Vegas, will arive on Broadway, opening in the Spring of 2013, at a theatre to be announced, following a premiere engagement in Nov 2012 in Toronto.

The musical comedy, written by composer Jason Robert Brown (Parade), with a libretto by Andrew Bergman - who both directed and wrote the screenplay for the 1992 movie - tells the story of Jack Singer, a regular guy with an extreme fear of marriage. When his girlfriend Betsy puts the pressure on, Jack finally pops the question and they head to Sin City for a whirlwind wedding weekend. But when Vegas wise guy Tommy Korman catches a glimpse of the stunning bride-to-be, and notices her uncanny resemblance to his late wife, he does everything possible to break up the romance and get his own second chance at love.

Tony Danza, who will star as professional gambler 'Tommy Korman,' came to fame for his roles in the long-running TV series "Taxi" and "Who's the Boss?", for which he received an Emmy and four Golden Globe nominations. He appeared on Broadway and in Las Vegas as 'Max Bialystock' in Mel Brooks' musical 'The Producers,' and starred as 'Eddie' in the 1997 production of 'A View from the Bridge' and 'Rocky' in Kevin Spacey's production of 'The Iceman Cometh.' He has starred in more than 20 movies, including "Angels in the Outfield," "She's Out of Control," "The Hollywood Knights" and "A Brooklyn State of Mind."

Honeymoon in Vegas will be directed by Gary Griffin ('The Color Purple,' 'The Apple Tree') and choreographed by Denis Jones.

Further casting and creative team will be announced in the coming weeks.

The musical will be produced on Broadway by Dena Hammerstein, Roy Gabay, Dan Farah and Katie Face Productions.

The Broadway capitalization for Honeymoon in Vegas is expected to be around $10 million.

A reading of the musical took place in Nov 2011, directed by Gary Griffin (The Color Purple). The reading featured T.R. Knight ('Grey's Anatomy') as 'Jack Singer,' Mary Faber (Avenue Q) as 'Betsy,' and Tony Danza as 'Tommy Kormanas'.
