Hadestown triumphs at the 2020 Grammy Awards
The Tony Award-winning Best Musical adds the Grammy Award for 'Best Musical Theater Album' to its list of accolades.
The New York Theatre Guide congratulates the Broadway premiere of Hadestown, which was triumphant at The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last night, taking home the Grammy for 'Best Musical Theater Album.'
Grammys went to the show's composer and lyricist (and producer) Anaïs Mitchell, as well as principal soloists Reeve Carney, André De Shields, Amber Gray, Eva Noblezada, and Patrick Page, and cast recording producers Mara Isaacs, David Lai, and Todd Sickafoose.
Aside from its Grammy Award win, Hadestown was also nominated for an astonishing total of 14 Tony Awards last year, ultimately winning eight Tonys (including 'Best Musical').
Hadestown was able to succeed against some stiff competition last night, as the other nominated cast recordings included the smash hit bio-musical Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations, the enchanting score of the Tony Award-winning 'Best Play' Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the jukebox sensation Moulin Rouge! The Musical, and the Tony Award-winning 'Best Revival of a Musical' Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma!
In addition, the New York Theatre would also like to congratulate Waitress songwriter Sara Bareilles, who makes her West End debut in the London production of Waitress tonight. Following seven previous nominations, Ms. Bareilles finally took home her first Grammy after winning in the category of 'Best American Roots' for "Saint Honesty."
Hadestown Tickets are available now for performances through November 22, 2020.
