Glenn Close leads the revival of A Delicate Balance



Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance will be revived on Broadway at the Golden Theatre for a limited 18 week engagement, opening on 20 Nov 2014 following previews from 20 Oct 2014.

The production will star Glenn Close, John Lithgow, Lindsay Duncan, Bob Balaban, Clare Higgins and Martha Plimpton, and will be directed by Pam MacKinnon.

Albee's 1966 play won him the first of three Pulitzer Prizes for Drama. It follows Agnes (Glenn Close) and Tobias (John Lithgow), a long-married couple as they attempt to maintain their equilibrium as over the course of a weekend as they welcome home their 36-year-old daughter (Martha Plimpton) after the collapse of her fourth marriage, and give shelter to their best friends (Bob Balaban and Clare Higgins), all the while tolerating Agnes' alcoholic sister Claire (Lindsay Duncan).

A Delicate Balance will mark the Broadway return of Tony Award winning and six-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close who was last seen on Broadway in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical 'Sunset Boulevard'. Her extensive stage credits include 'Love for Love', 'The Crucifer of Blood', 'The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs' and 'Barnum'. Her film credits include: 'The World According to Garp', 'The Big Chill', 'The Natural', 'Fatal Attraction', 'Dangerous Liaisons', and 'Albert Nobbs'.

John Lithgow has won Tony Awards for his work on Broadway, including performances in 'The Changing Room' and 'Sweet Smell of Success'. On television, he is best known for his portrayal of Dick Solomon on the NBC series 'Third Rock From the Sun', as well as 'Dexter'. He will star as the title role in 'King Lear' in this summer's Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theatre.

Lindsay Duncan has won Tony Awards for her performances in 'Private Lives' and 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses'. London stage credits include 'Hay Fever', 'That Face', 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' and 'Top Girls'. Clare Higgins has won three Olivier Awards for her roles in 'Vincent in Brixton', 'Sweet Bird of Youth', and 'Hecuba'.

Bob Balaban's Broadway credits include 'Plaza Suite', 'The Inspector General' (Tony Award nomination), and 'Speed-the-Plow'. His film credits include 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', 'Moonrise Kingdom', 'Capote', 'A Mighty Wind', 'Best in Show', and 'Waiting for Guffman'. Martha Plimpton was nominated for Tony and Drama Desk awards for her performances in 'Pal Joey', 'Top Girls' and 'The Coast of Utopia'. Her TV credits include roles in 'Raising Hope' and 'The Good Wife'.

A Delicate Balance will be produced on Broadway by Scott Rudin, and will feature scenic design by Santo Loquasto, costume design by Ann Roth, and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt.
