Gizel Jiménez & Michael McCormick will join Broadway cast of Wicked

Jiménez and McCormick assume the roles of Nessarose and The Wizard, respectively, in the smash hit Broadway musical.

Wonderful! The Broadway company of the long-running hit musical Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre is getting ready to welcome two new Citizens of Oz this spring, as Michael McCormick and Drama Desk Award nominee Gizel Jiménez are set to assume the roles of The Wizard and Nessarose, respectively. Three-time Tony Award nominee Kevin Chamberlin will play his final performance as The Wizard this Sunday, February 17, with Mr. McCormick beginning his run on February 18, whilst Kristen Martin is scheduled to play her final performance as Nessarose on March 10, with Ms. Jiménez taking over on March 12, 2019.

Michael McCormick's many Broadway credits include Hello, Dolly!Chaplin, Elf, Curtains, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, The Pajama Game, Kiss Me, Kate, 1776, Gypsy, Marie Christine, Kiss of the Spider Woman, La Bête, and Oliver!

Gizel Jiménez makes her Broadway debut in Wicked. Her previous stage credits include a Drama Desk-nominated performance in Miss You Like Hell, as well as Party PeopleRosario and the Gypsies off-Broadway, and the National Tour of West Side Story. 

The current principal cast of Wicked includes Jessica Vosk (as Elphaba), Katie Rose Clarke (as Glinda), Ryan McCartan (as Fiyero), Tony Award nominee Nancy Opel (as Madame Morrible), three-time Tony Award nominee Kevin Chamberlin (as The Wizard), Jesse JP Johnson (as Boq), Kristen Martin (as Nessarose), and Jamie Jackson (as Dr. Dillamond).

The Broadway musical Wicked officially opened at the Gershwin Theatre on October 30, 2003, following previews from October 8.

Wicked features music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, a book by Winnie Holzman, and is based on the popular novel by Gregory Maguire.

Synopsis: "The Broadway sensation Wicked looks at what happened in the Land of Oz...but from a different angle. Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another young woman, born with emerald-green skin, who is smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships...until the world decides to call one "good," and the other one "wicked.""

The production is directed by Joe Mantello, with choreography by James Lynn Abbott, and features scene design by Eugene Lee, costume design by Susan Hilferty, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and sound design by Tony Meola.

Wicked is produced on Broadway by Universal Stage Productions, Marc Platt, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt, and David Stone.

Wicked Tickets are available now for performances through to October 27, 2019.
