Further casting announced for Caroline, or Change revival at Studio 54
Sharon D. Clarke will make her Broadway debut as she reprises her Olivier Award-winning performance in the Broadway transfer.
Roundabout Theatre Company has announced further casting for the upcoming revival of Tony & Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner and Tony Award winner Jeanine Tesori's musical Caroline, or Change at Studio 54. The production is scheduled to begin previews on March 13, 2020, ahead of an official opening on April 7.
Currently starring as Elsa in the stage adaptation of Disney's Frozen, Caissie Levy will play Rose Stopnick Gellman. She is joined by John Cariani (as Stuart Gellman), whose previous Broadway credits include The Band's Visit, Something Rotten! and a Tony Award-nominated performance as Motel in Fiddler on the Roof.
The cast of Caroline, or Change will also include Jonah Mussolino (as Noah Gellman), Tamika Lawrence (as Dotty Moffett), Nasia Thomas, Nya and Harper Miles (as the three Radios), Alexander Bello (as Joe Thibodeaux), Chinua Payne (as Jackie Thibodeaux), Arica Jackson (as the Washing Machine), Stuart Zagnit (as Grandpa Gellman ), and Chip Zien (as Mr. Stopnick).
They join the previously announced Sharon D. Clarke as Caroline, with West End theatre credits including The Amen King, We Will Rock You, Ghost the Musical, The Lion King and Chicago, among many others.
Synopsis: "Sharon D Clarke stars in an exhilarating, Olivier Award-winning performance as Caroline, an African-American maid whose world of 1963 Louisiana ripples with change both large and small. Erupting with transcendent songs and larger-than-life imagination, Caroline, or Change explores how, in times of great transformation, even the simplest acts shake the earth."
The creative team behind Caroline, or Change features choreography by Ann Yee, music direction by Chris Fenwick, music supervision by Nigel Lilley, scenic & costume design by Fly Davis, lighting design by Jack Knowles, and sound design by Paul Arditti.
This new production, starring Clarke and directed by Michael Longhurst, originally premiered at the Chichester Festival Theatre in June 2017, before transferring Off-West End to the Hampstead Theatre in March 2018 and finally to the West End's Playhouse Theatre in November 2018.
