Full casting announced for Bowie's Lazarus at NYTW
The New York Theatre Workshop, under artistic director James C. Nicola, has announced full casting for its upcoming world premiere of Lazarus, written by David Bowie and Enda Walsh and directed by Ivo van Hove, which will begin previews at the New York Theatre Workshop on 18 November 2015, before an official opening on 7 December.
Joining previously announced Golden Globe winner and six-time Emmy nominee Michael C. Hall (Thomas Newton) will be Tony nominee Cristin Milioti (Elly) and Michael Esper (Valentime), along with Krystina Alabado, Sophia Ann Caruso, Nicholas Christopher, Lynn Craig, Bobby Moreno, Krista Pioppi, Charlie Pollock, and Brynn Williams.
Inspired by the 1963 novel 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' by Walter Tevis, the drama feature songs specially composed by David Bowie for this production as well as new arrangements of previously recorded songs.
Lazarus centres on the character of Thomas Newton, famously portrayed by Mr. Bowie in the 1976 screen adaptation directed by Nicolas Roeg.
Cristin Milioti received a Tony nomination for her performance in 'Once' in 2012. Her other Broadway credits include 'Coram Boy' and 'The Lieutenant of Inishmore.' She has previously appeared at NYTW in 'The Little Foxes,' 'The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter,' and 'Once.' Other off-Broadway credits include 'That Face,' 'The Retributionists,' 'Stunning,' and 'Some Americans Abroad.' Her screen credits include 'The Wolf of Wall Street' and the role of Tracy McConnell in TV series 'How I Met Your Mother.'
Michael Esper last appeared on Broadway in Sting's 'The Last Ship.' Other Broadway credits include Green Day's 'American Idiot,' 'The Lyons,' and 'A Man for All Seasons.' His many off-Broadway credits include 'Tales From Red Vienna,' 'Assistance,' 'The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism With a Key to the Scriptures,' 'Crazy Mary,' 'subUrbia,' 'Manic Flight Reaction,' and 'Big Bill.'
