Fire Exit at the Medicine Show
Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble presents Fire Exit, by V.R Lang, opening at the Medicine Show Theatre on the 4 May 2006, following previews from the 27 Apr and running through to the 21 May 2006.
Fire Exit: Resets the classical Greek myth of Eurydice and Orpheus to a colorful mid-20th century American world of circuses and burlesque shows.
Eurydice is a beautiful and innocent young orphan whos been raised by a cadre of warm-hearted circus folk, all of whom are anxious for her to 'learn an act' now that shes coming of age. But Eurydice yearns for much more in life than just the circus. Her prayers are seemingly answered when she meets Orpheus, a talented young musician, and falls deeply in love with him. He goes on to become a major star of the classical music world and the two are wed. But the career-oriented and egotistical Orpheus has little interest in his new wife, and Eurydice starts to realize that her life isnt the fairy tale that she had hoped for.
Fire Exit's cast, directed by Barbara Vann, features Morton Banks, Alexander Bilu, Jennifer Cintron, John Crefeld, Mark J. Dempsey, Lora Lee Ecobelli, Julia Granacki, Jason Alan Griffin, Beth Griffith, Amy Kersten, Constantine Montana, Sarah Nuffer, Barbara Vann, Greg Vorob and Joel Bernstein.
The show has costumes by Uta Bekaia and lighting by Susan Nicholson.
