Family Week: Kathleen Chalfant joins cast

MCC Theater has announced that Kathleen Chalfant has signed on to join the cast of Beth Henley's Family Week, directed by Jonathan Demme.

Complete casting for the four member ensemble will be announced later.

Chalfant joins the previously announced Rosemarie DeWitt. Sarah Jones, who was initially announced to star had to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict. Performances will begin at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on 7 Apr 2010 and continue through to 23 May 2010. Opening night is set for 26 Apr.

Family Week: A year after the death of her son, Claire checks into a recovery center in the desert, searching for a way to cope. When her mother, daughter and sister arrive to participate in 'family week,' long-dormant traumas collide with recent tragedies.

Making his theatrical debut, Academy Award-winning director Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) collaborates with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley (Crimes of the Heart) on a new version of this bitterly funny play.

Kathleen Chalfant was nominated for a Tony for her work in 'Angels in America: Millennium Approaches.' Other Broadway credits include 'Racing Demon' and 'Angels in America: Perestroika.' Chalfant won a Lucille Lortel and an Obie Award for her role as 'Vivian Bearing Ph.D' in MCC's productions of 'Wit.' In 1996 Chalfant was presented with an OBIE Award for Sustained Excellence of Performance. Recent Off-Broadway credits include 'Dead Man's Cell Phone,' 'A Hard Heart' and 'Spalding Gray: Stories Left to Tell.' Film credits include 'Duplicity,' 'Perfect Stranger,' 'Dark Water,' 'Kinsey' and more. Her TV work includes recurring roles in 'Rescue Me' and 'The Guardian.'
